Wounded deer runs into Louisiana hospital, scurries up escalator: video

A dauntless deer seemingly in search of medical care dashed into a Louisiana hospital — shocking staffers and visitors as it hoofed up an escalator onto the second floor, wild video shows.

The furry 4-year-old doe made her entrance without an appointment Monday afternoon at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, surveillance video shows.

“Our team members are always ready for the unexpected,” the hospital said in a statement.

The animal, which wildlife officials suspect had been hit by a car, ran through the hospital’s front door — briefly slipping on the floor — before speeding past stunned onlookers and steadily making its way up an escalator in the wrong direction.

The deer then pranced away from the second-floor escalator before being corralled by staffers and an officer, hospital officials told WBRZ.

“The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department responded promptly helping to remove the animal,” the hospital said in a statement. “Patient care has not been interrupted and the area is being thoroughly sanitized.”

The deer may have wandered into the hospital from nearby Ward Creek, hospital officials said.

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department later euthanized the deer after it was found with “major injuries” to its sinuses.

Other video obtained by WBRZ shows the apparently sedated deer being wheeled out on a gurney to a waiting Department of Wildlife and Fisheries vehicle.

The agency believes the animal — which had blood coming out of its mouth — had been hit by a car before making its unannounced hospital visit, WAFB reported.

A registered nurse, meanwhile, tweeted photos of several people, including an officer and a hospital employee, on top of the injured deer before wildlife officials responded.
