Neil Patrick Harris to replace Christian Borle in ‘Into the Woods’

The change occurred before midnight.

Stage and screen star Neil Patrick Harris, 48, has been selected to replace Broadway veteran Christian Borle, 48, in the upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” at New York City Center, according to Deadline.

The star-studded off-Broadway production is scheduled to open May 4 and run through May 17.

There was no official reason given as to why Borle has left the production other than that he was no longer available.

Harris joins a cast including Sara Bareilles, Gavin Creel, Heather Headley and several others.

Harris won the 2014 Tony award for Best Actor in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” and previously starred in the revival of Sondheim’s “Assassins.”
