Paige Spiranac reacts to wild VMAs 2022 performance featuring twerking hologram

Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards featured an array of wild moments, but one, in particular, captured much of the internet’s — and Paige Spiranac’s — attention.

When Colombian superstar J Balvin performed “Nivel De Perreo” alongside Ryan Castro inside the Prudential Center in Newark, the duo was joined by a giant twerking hologram. As Twitter naturally discussed the series of events, Spiranac also weighed in.

“I think it’s hilarious parents get mad at me for ‘being a bad role model’ while this is on national television lol,” the 29-year-old golf influencer tweeted Sunday night.

Beyond Balvin and Castro’s memorable performance, the 2022 VMAs also featured appearances from Taylor Swift, who received the award for Video of the Year for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” and Johnny Depp, who left viewers divided over his moon man cameo. Nicki Minaj also performed a collection of her greatest hits as she took home the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Though this past weekend was a big one for MTV, Spiranac had plenty to celebrate, too, as she dropped her “Happy Gilmore”-inspired towel on Friday.

“Welcome to your Happy Place,” Spiranac said of the towel on Instagram, in which she channeled Julie Bowen’s Virginia Venit from the 1996 Adam Sandler golf comedy, dressing in white lingerie while holding two pitchers of beer.

Spiranac, who was named Maxim’s “Sexiest Woman Alive” back in June, also tweeted an inspiring message Friday as she savored the moment.

“I used to be so worried about being taken ‘seriously’ and pleasing people who didn’t even like me. Everything changed in my career when I started having fun with my content and doing what I wanted,” Spiranac tweeted. “Today I’m shooting my calendar and dropped a sick towel! Be unapologeticly [sic] you.”
