Delonte West arrested twice in two weeks

Following an Oct. 15 arrest in Virginia, former NBA player Delonte West was arrested again on Oct. 29 for public intoxication, according to TMZ.

The Fairfax County Police Dept. told the outlet that they found the 39-year-old former NBA player “lying next to a car with an open door” in a residential area around 3:47 p.m. following reports of a man who appeared to be drunk.

Upon arrival, police made contact with West and arrested him for being drunk in public, before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

West was charged with misdemeanor intoxication in public, per court records. A hearing has been set for January.

West’s latest run-in with the law occurred two weeks after TMZ reported that police were called to a parking lot in Virginia, where they found West trespassing in a vehicle. When cops tried to put him in handcuffs, West reportedly took off running.

Police eventually tracked him down and arrested West on four charges: vehicle trespassing, entering a vehicle, fleeing from law enforcement and drunk in public.

West — the 24th overall pick by the Celtics in the 2004 NBA Draft — has publicly dealt with mental health struggles, substance abuse and bipolar disorder. He entered rehab in 2020 with help from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

West appeared to be making progress when he was seen shooting around at a gym in February, preparing for a tryout in March for Ice Cube’s BIG3 league. He also reportedly got a job with a flooring company in June.

But Cuban told TMZ in September that West was struggling to get healthy.

“I mean, addiction is awful. And mental illness is awful,” Cuban said. “He’s at the point in his life where he’s got to want to be helped.”

West played eight seasons in the NBA for the Mavericks, Celtics, Cavaliers and Seattle SuperSonics.
