Top 2023 interior design trends, according to home decor experts

We’ll say it once and we’ll say it again: this is your sign to add some oomph and vibrancy to your home if you’ve been wanting to renovate.

Cutting right to the chase, we turned to an home decor expert on the top interior design trends predicted to be at the forefront for 2023.

“We saw a big push towards organic modern,” Nick Lewis, interior design YouTuber with nearly 400K subscribers, told the New York Post when recapping 2022 trends. “The color palette has been trending warmer in the last few years as we saw movement away from cool grays and silver tones, and more towards beige and brown.”

That, combined with organic shapes and natural materials, was a defining style of 2022.

Of course, just because something spiked in popularity this year doesn’t mean it’ll be forgotten in 2023. Interestingly, Lewis forecasts more homeowners will style their furnishings with bolder, saturated color.

“The maximalist and grand millennial styles have been getting a lot of attention in recent years, but I think for 2023 these styles will be more sophisticated and mature with less clashing,” he adds. “So, we’ll see a lot more bold, saturated color going forward.”

What colors, specifically? Green will continue to be popular, though Lewis also recommends looking for terracotta, rust and other earth tones to be paired with it.

“Dusty rose is also making a comeback from the 90s as a more sophisticated cousin to the millennial pink we saw a few years ago,” he shares.

In tandem with a fresh yet dynamic color palette, Lewis also sees the following as interior design trends for 2023:

  • Vintage and antique decor: Whether it’s a vintage brass lighting fixture, or antique furniture, people are mixing their new furnishings with vintage more than ever.
  • Muted, minimalist pillows: People are looking to better integrate their pillows and soft furnishings into the rest of their palette and style. The “pop of color” pillows on top of boring couches will look dated.
  • Statement marble countertops and kitchen decor: Bold marble with lots of veining and movement will be a popular way to make a statement in a new kitchen.
  • Large butler-style kitchen pantries: Hidden pantries and large butler pantries will be popular in larger homes as people still want the advantages of open concept, but a space to hide the mess.
  • Creating a bedroom oasis: After the pandemic, there has been a focus on creating a sanctuary for yourself in a chaotic world and the bed is a big part of that.
