The Post’s Mark Cannizzaro makes his for this week’s U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club:
Patrick Cantlay
He’s an L.A. native and has done everything but win this season with a tie for ninth at the PGA Championship, a tie for 14th at the Masters, a third at the RBC Heritage, tie for fourth at the Arnold Palmer and a third at the Genesis down the road at Riviera.
Joe LaCava’s on the bag for him, and this week Cantlay wins his first career major.
Brooks Koepka
It’s foolish to think he won’t be in the mix late on Sunday, having won two U.S. Opens already and as the reigning PGA champion.
Tyrrell Hatton
He hasn’t shown the maturity and patience on the golf course to be a true threat at a major, but the mercurial Englishman has been in great form of late.
He was third last week in Canada, tied for 12th at the Memorial, tied 15th at the PGA, was fifth at Byron Nelson and third at the Wells Fargo.
That’s called trending.
Viktor Hovland
I’m always one to pick a player in good form, and no one has played consistently better of late than Hovland, who was runner-up at the PGA and won the Memorial.
Jon Rahm
Because he’s the No. 2-ranked player in the world.
Because he has four wins in California, where he captured his first career win and only major championship.
