Dad claims he didn’t kill 5-year-old Harmony Montgomery before getting 30-year gun sentence

A New Hampshire dad charged with killing his 5-year-old daughter proclaimed his innocence in court Monday — before getting hit with a 30-year sentence in an unrelated gun case.

Adam Montgomery, who is awaiting trial in the death of young Harmony Montgomery, used his sentencing in a felony gun case to mount an early defense in the upcoming murder case, WFXT-TV News reported Monday.

“I didn’t kill my daughter, Harmony, and I look forward to my upcoming trial to refuse those offensive claims,” the admitted drug addict told Superior Court Justice Amy Messerdge.

“You probably won’t believe me when I tell you that I didn’t wake up one morning and chose to become an addict, and I will spend my time in prison realizing it to the best of my ability, to change things about myself,” he said.

“I love my daughter unconditionally and I didn’t kill her. Please don’t consider anything that relates to charges,” Montgomery said. “Only consider the facts of this case.”

Harmony Montgomery, 5, was last seen alive in December 2019 but wasn’t reported missing for nearly two years.

The judge hit him with consecutive 15-year minimum sentences on a slew of gun theft, sale, and possession charges — with the judge reprimanding him, “You bragged about the guns!”

Montgomery is now due to stand trial on second-degree murder charges in the disappearance of his bubbly young daughter, who is presumed dead after she was last seen in December 2019.

Prosecutors claim he beat Harmony to death in a fit of rage after she had a “bathroom accident,” and hid her battered body for nearly two years before she was finally reported missing in November 2021.

The girl’s remains have never been found despite massive searches as recently as April.

Kayla Montgomery, Harmony’s mom, told police her estranged husband repeatedly punched the girl in the face after she soiled the car the family had been living in.

“I think I really hurt her this time. I think I did something,” she said the accused killer told her.

The mom told the Daily Beast last year that cops had ignored her warnings about her violent ex.

Montgomery pleaded not guilty in October to charges of murder, falsifying physical evidence and abuse of a corpse, and could go on trial in the case later this year.

In court Monday, his lawyer attributed the gun charges to “opportunity fueled by addiction.”

“Here the crime as presented by the state was a crime of opportunity, it did not involve violence, although anyone would say theft is a level of violence,” lawyer Caroline Smith told the judge.

“But we don’t have an assault of anybody, we don’t have physical harm to anybody,” she said. “This is a crime of opportunity based on an addiction and to fuel that addiction.”
