Deer walks into Washington candy shop, stops to savor some sweet treats

A deer walks into a candy shop …

It’s no joke: Customers at an old-fashioned sweets store in Washington watched in amazement Saturday as a deer strolled in and became briefly enamored by its taffy display — even possibly swiping a butter-popcorn-flavored piece — before high-tailing it out of there again.

Surveillance footage from Buddy and Howie’s Candy Store in Ocean Shores showed the antlered deer waiting in the doorway for a moment before deciding to step inside.

He was seen sniffing at the taffy display and then carefully walking around the aisles as stunned shoppers whipped out their phones to record the encounter.

The deer, apparently spooked, then ran back out the door.

“We had a special visitor come in and check out the taffy boat this morning,” shop owner Jenn Strobel posted on the business’s Facebook page. “He approves!!!”

She told KOMO News that the only damage the deer seemed to have done was maybe take a piece of butter popcorn taffy.

Many community members were amused by the unexpected shopper, sharing the video with friends and family online.

“He thought that was why you leave the door open,” Burle Pitts commented on Facebook, claiming the deer “finally got brave enough to step in.”

Others joked about the encounter, with Daniel Meissler writing: “That was bucking crazy!!!”

And Dale Hart simply asked, “How much taffy for a buck?”
