Subway creep arrested in terrifying sex assault that resulted in emergency surgery for victim
The creep suspected of sexually assaulting a 24-year-old woman at a Manhattan subway station – bashing her head on the platform and then snatching her phone as she tried to call 911 – has been charged with the horrifying attack, police said Tuesday.
Joel Ramirez, 26, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. Monday when eagle-eyed cops spotted him near the 59th Street-Columbus Circle station and recognized him from a “Wanted” flier, police sources said.
The suspect was wearing the same clothing as when he allegedly attacked the woman at the 14th Street-Union Square subway hub early Sunday, the sources said.
Ramirez was previously arrested in February for allegedly grabbing another woman’s buttocks after she got off an L train in Manhattan, police sources said.
Online records show he was released on his own recognizance in connection to that case, and a temporary order of protection was issued.
Ramirez, of Brooklyn, was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, sex abuse, forcible touching, and second-degree harassment for the latest attack, which took place around 3:25 a.m. on Sunday.
Police said the victim was waiting for a northbound N train when the sicko came up to her and grabbed her breast, before shoving his hand down her pants and grabbing her private parts as she tried to get away.
The creep forced her down onto the platform, repeatedly slammed her head to the ground and continued to grope her – before a bystander stepped in and scared him off, cops said.
The good Samaritan helped the injured woman up the stairs and out onto the street before going to look for further assistance.
The woman dialed 911 – but her call was interrupted as the suspect allegedly ran toward her to attack her again, according to the sources.
The victim took off running – with 911 on the line – when the sicko allegedly caught up to her, snatched the phone and bolted, the sources said.
Still, the woman kept running until she hailed a taxi home, according to the sources.
Once home, her head began to hurt and she noticed a bump, the sources said.
Her sister brought her to Mount Sinai Morningside, where she underwent emergency surgery on her head, according to the sources.
In addition to his open Manhattan case from February, Ramirez has one previous “emotionally disturbed person” incident from July of 2022, in which he walked with no underwear, no shirt and ripped shorts on a Brooklyn sidewalk, while speaking incoherently, the sources said.
