Huge McDonald’s order brought into court during Trump’s fraud trial
A super-size McDonald’s order was brought into Manhattan court on Monday as former President Donald Trump was fighting a $250 million civil fraud case.
Staffers in suits were seen hauling bag after bag bearing the iconic McDonald’s Golden Arches into the Centre Street complex during a lunch break for the proceedings — in which Trump stands accused of inflating the value of his business empire to the tune of $2.2 billion.
Though it was not immediately clear who placed the order, the former president’s abiding affection for Mickey D’s is well documented.
Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and former senior advisor wrote in his 2022 memoir “Breaking History” that the 2024 GOP nomination frontrunner’s favorite meal from the all-American burger chain included a Big Mac, a Filet-o-Fish, fries, and a vanilla shake.
Trump’s love of fast food was frequently on display during his tenure as commander-in-chief. In January 2019, he famously greeted the NCAA National Championship-winning Clemson Tigers football team at the White House with a smorgasbord of McDonald’s burgers and Chick-fil-a sandwiches.
“We’ve got Big Macs, we’ve got Quarter Pounders, we’ve got everything that I like and you like,” Trump said at the time.
Although he faced criticism, both for the menu and for hosting the event amid a partial government shutdown, in his usual style Trump was undeterred.
Just two months later he hosted the Division I FCS champion North Dakota State Bison in the Diplomatic Room of the White House, which was festooned with piles of fast food, including McDonald’s.
But if the calorie-rich lunch was sent to the former president it was evidently not enough to curb Trump’s “hangriness.”
The former president fumed to reporters outside the courthouse during the lunch break that the trial was “interfering with an election,” calling it “a disgrace.”
Much of his ire was targeted at New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron, the judge overseeing his fraud case.
“This is a judge that should be out of office. This is a judge that some people say could be charged criminally for what he’s doing,” Trump said.”The judge should be disbarred, he shouldn’t be allowed to be a judge,” he continued before turning to leave.
The fraud lawsuit, which was filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, accuses both Trump as well as his sons Eric and Don Jr. of a decades-long scheme to benefit financially by overstating the value of the Trump Organization’s real estate holdings. Both Trump’s sons, the former president, and his daughter Ivanka are all on the witness list.
The non-jury trial is expected to conclude by the end of December.
