NYPD cop fires shot while being dragged by fleeing suspect’s car in Brooklyn

An NYPD officer’s arm got caught in a fleeing suspect’s car during a confrontation in Brooklyn early Sunday — causing the cop to accidentally fire off a shot from his handgun, police said.

Video obtained by The Post shows the officer approach the suspect’s car — and the driver then speeding off as three other cops run after the vehicle.

The officer — who has not been identified — arrived near the corner of Snyder and Bedford Avenues in Flatbush at about 4 a.m. after someone called the department to report a fight, according to WPIX 11.

A man told officers that the suspect had pointed a gun at him, the station said.

Cops found the suspect sitting in his car nearby. But when the cop — who had his weapon drawn — reached into the car, the suspect took off and dragged the unfortunate officer with him.

That’s when his gun accidentally discharged, the report said.

No one was struck by the errant bullet.

The fleeing suspect got away, authorities said.

The fight happened outside a well-known nightclub called the “Afrika House” that attracts a big crowd every weekend, one neighbor told The Post on Sunday morning.

He described the encounter that led to the cops being called as a scrum between some bar patrons who were “yelling and acting crazy” as they shoved each other outside the venue.

Officers broke the fight up, and two men fled in a black Hyundai Accent while “almost running people down,” the neighbor said.

They then returned, and when the cop walked up to talk to them, the driver hit the gas and dragged him behind the car.

“Three cops went chasing on foot, but gave up quick!” he said.

The officer was brought to the hospital with a minor shoulder injury, WPIX said.
