Raiders’ Jimmy Garoppolo leaves stadium in ambulance after exiting with back injury

Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo left Sunday’s game against the Patriots with a back injury and reportedly left the stadium in an ambulance. 

CBS’ Tracy Wolfson reported during the broadcast that Garoppolo had been dealing with a back issue and had been “banged up” on the Raiders’ final drive of the half. 

Garoppolo was talking with team trainers on the sideline while appearing frustrated late in the second quarter, according to NFL.com.

Shortly after, he walked to the Raiders’ locker room and didn’t return to the field for the second half of the game.

Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Heidi Fang posted on X that Garoppolo got into an ambulance and left the stadium.

The CBS broadcast later confirmed that and reported that Garoppolo had gone to the hospital for further evaluation on his back. 

There weren’t any further details on the severity of the back issue for the Raiders quarterback.

Backup Brian Hoyer took over at quarterback coming out of halftime with Las Vegas ahead,13-3. 

Rookie Aidan O’Connell is the emergency quarterback should Hoyer also get injured.

Garoppolo is in his first season with the Raiders and had previously missed Week 4’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers due to a concussion. 

When Garoppolo had left the game on Sunday, he had completed 14-of-22 pass attempts for 162 yards against the Patriots, with a touchdown and interception against his former team.

Entering the game, Garoppolo had thrown 86 completions for 917 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions.
