Substitute teacher charged with child abuse for forcing two students to kiss

A North Las Vegas substitute teacher accused of forcing two students to kiss last month has been arrested, according to police.

Rasheda Rose, 29, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of child abuse after allegedly coercing the 6th graders to kiss in front of other students at Legacy Traditional Schools – a charter school in North Las Vegas, KLAS reported.

North Las Vegas Police Department received reports on Oct.12 that a substitute teacher had made “inappropriate” comments in class two days earlier.

An email sent to parents about the incident claimed that Rose encouraged kids “to kiss each other” and used “inappropriate language.”

Robynn Bell, whose son was in the classroom, told the outlet all the students felt “extremely uncomfortable” at the time.

“Who asks a sixth-grade student, who has a boyfriend and a girlfriend? Really, the kids are not here for that. They’re here to learn,” another parent, Anais Gallegos, said.

Many parents slammed the school for not notifying them the day of the incident, robbing them of the opportunity to discuss it right after it happened. They were not informed until the following day.

Legacy Traditional Schools said their substitute teachers are provided through a third-party agency. The agency was conducting its own investigation into the incident.

Rose has been relieved of her teaching duties, according to the NLVPD. She was booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center.
