Being hungover turned Jon Feliciano into a self-proclaimed “b—h” and had him unintentionally throwing a teammate under the bus.
In his attempt to defend 49ers right tackle Colton McKivitz from blame for Chris Jones’ game-changing free rush that forced San Francisco to settle for a field goal in overtime, Feliciano made it clear on X that right guard Spencer Burford missed his blocking assignment on the play.
Burford did not appreciate Feliciano’s blame delegation, responding to him on X, and Feliciano, the former Giants offensive lineman, then flagged himself for being a bad teammate.
“Im sorry bro. I woke up hungover and being a b–h. In trying to have ones back I hurt u,” Feliciano tweeted. “t’s f-Ed up and I apologize. You got nothing but greatness ahead of you. I’m sorry bro.”
The drama centers around the third-down play on the 49ers’ drive in overtime.
Had the 49ers scored a touchdown on that play, perhaps the games ends in a different manner.
Facing a third-and-4 at the Chiefs’ 9-yard line in overtime, Jones somehow had a free rush at quarterback Brock Purdy and forced an incompletion.
If not for that immediate rush, Purdy would have likely found an open Brandon Aiyuk or Jauan Jennings for a touchdown.
It’s safe to assume the 49ers’ plan did not call for Jones, the Chiefs’ best defensive lineman, to go unblocked on the play.
A 49ers fan account showed a clip of the play and called out McKivitz, since Jones goes right by him with the tackle just putting his left hand out.
“Colton McKivitz has one of the best players in the game lined up in front of him and he decides to give him a free rush to Brock Purdy… Sickening,” the fan posted.
And this is where it all went wrong for Feliciano.
Feliciano, at around 9 a.m. PT, jumped onto X to defend McKivitz with a quote tweet of the aforementioned post.
“I know you know all, so u should know that’s not Colton’s guy….,” he posted.
Another fan then asked who should have blocked Jones and mentioned using a chop block to disrupt Jones.
And that’s where Feliciano — inadvertently it seems — made it clear that Burford should have handled Jones on the play.
As former Giants offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz noted, four of the 49ers linemen went to the left on the play, which opened the path for Jones.
“A quick chop is not needed if the guy that was supposed to block him, blocks him,” Feliciano tweeted.
Burford saw this tweet and had issues with Feliciano’s comments.
“Sheesh…I open up my app to this…get well soon bro…,” he tweeted.
And that’s when Feliciano realized he messed up.
