Moment thieves sneak past Maryland cop during armed 7-Eleven robbery captured in wild video
Three armed suspects robbing a 7-Eleven were able to sneak by a Maryland police officer who stood just a few feet away from them while he was specifically looking out for thieves at the convenience store.
Shocking surveillance footage of the Feb. 8 heist shows the moment a getaway car pulls up next to a police cruiser at the 7-Eleven store on Berry Road in Waldorf, WUSA 9 reports.
As the Charles County Sheriff’s officer keeps his back turned to the store while he leans into the passenger side of his vehicle, two of the thieves book it past him just a few feet away, and get into the getaway car.
By the time the officer seems to realize what’s going on and reaches for his sidearm, the thieves race away.
The officer then rushes to his radio as his partner, who was also scouting around the 7-Eleven, could be seen giving chase to the robbers in his police vehicle.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office said the cops were at the convenience store after the department had received word that another 7-Eleven in the neighboring Prince George’s County had been robbed, so its officers were actively canvassing nearby franchises.
The group who had robbed the Waldorf location had allegedly forced the employees into the back of the store at gunpoint while they ransacked the store.
“Our officers respond to and face dangerous situations every day, some with warning and others without,” Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Diane Richardson said in a statement.
“Clearly in this case the officers were not aware that a robbery was occurring. As soon as they recognized what was happening they took action and pursued the suspects,” she added.
It was not immediately clear if the thieves who got away in the video were the same group who robbed the Prince George’s County 7-Eleven store.
Federal and local law enforcement are currently investigating the robberies.
The management at the Waldorf 7-Eleven did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
