Tennis star Matteo Berrettini breaks up with girlfriend who was once accused of having ‘too much sex’

Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini has opened up about his “intense relationship” and split from girlfriend Melissa Satta.

Berrettini confirmed he and Satta, an Italian model and and television personality, aren’t together after going public with their romance in January 2023, according to The Sun.

“Melissa Satta and I are no longer together,” Berrettini said, per The Sun. “What I can say is that we had a beautiful, intense relationship, we have great respect for each other. I won’t go beyond this, I don’t like sharing my private life too much.”

Berrettini, 27, did not share exactly why or when the former couple called it quits.

“Nothing special happened,” the 2021 Wimbledon finalist said. “I must thank her for this period we lived together very intensely despite all the difficulties of the case.”

Satta, 38, has yet to publicly address the breakup.

Berrettini and Satta met through mutual friends in Miami. They went public with their relationship in January 2023.

A few months later, Satta opened up about facing “bullying and sexism” online for months due to her relationship with Berrettini.

At the time, Satta responded to those that blamed her for Berrettini’s abdominal injury, which kept him out of the Tennis Internationals in Rome in May.

Fans apparently ran with a baseless theory that Berrettini became injured as a result of too much sex.

“I receive a lot of messages of insults, bullying and sexism,” Satta told Vanity Fair. “I have chosen to be a public figure, and I accept being exposed and exposing myself on social media, but I’m just trying to have a romantic relationship with another person, I simply want to try to be happy too.”

Satta recalled dealing with the same criticisms during her 10-year marriage with her ex-husband, German soccer player Kevin Prince Boateng.

“Once, my ex-husband, who suffered from pubalgia (chronic groin lesion). There, too, they attacked me saying that we had too much sex and that was the cause of his physical problems,” said Satta, who shares a 9-year-old son, Maddox Prince, with Boateng.

According to The Sun, Satta said in 2012 that Boateng was “injured so often because we have sex seven to 10 times a week.”
