Karol G hugs friends in emotional moment after smoke in cockpit forces private plane to make emergency landing
A private jet carrying Colombian reggaeton singer Karol G was forced to make an emergency landing at a Los Angeles airport after the aircraft’s cockpit filled with smoke.
The 33-year-old Grammy winner and her entourage’s Gulfstream aircraft landed safely at Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles late Thursday, according to ABC7.
The private aircraft took off from nearby Burbank Airport on Thursday evening with 16 people on board but soon turned around over Cajon Pass — 70 miles east of the airport — due to the midflight issue.
It made a smooth landing at Van Nuys Airport around 9 p.m. local time.
Upon landing, the white aircraft decorated with a barbed-wire heart logo, the same emblem tattooed on the singer’s arm, was greeted by airport emergency vehicles.
Karol G, whose real name is Carolina Giraldo Navarro, and her posse were captured walking off the plane and hugging on the tarmac following the in-flight scare.
She was also captured shaking what appeared to be the pilot’s hand as airport emergency crews tended to the plane.
The cause of the malfunction has not been revealed.
It is unclear if the singer or anyone else on board suffered any injuries.
Karol G wrapped up the Mexican leg of her “Mañana Será Bonito” (“Tomorrow will be nice”) tour last Sunday, where she played seven concerts.
She is scheduled to perform in Guatemala City on Friday night
The singer has yet to publicly address the incident.
The Post has reached out to Navarro’s reps for comment.
She won her first Grammy earlier this month for “best música urbana album.”
Karol G was named Billboard’s 2024 Woman of the Year, and is set to be honored at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 6.
Her record-breaking album “Mañana Será Bonito,” which was released in February 2023, made her the first female singer to top the Billboard 200 with a Spanish-language album.
She also launched her own Bichota Records and signed a deal with Interscope Records last summer.
Following the successful release of the album, Navarro headlined Lollapalooza 2023, days before she began the United States stretch of her tour, “selling out” the largest stadiums in the US.
The native of Medellín, Colombia, is scheduled to continue the Latin American part of her tour this weekend, through May 10, hitting several countries in Latin and South America before traveling to Europe for the last two months of the tour.
