Trump beats Haley in Missouri Republican caucuses

Donald Trump racked up another victory in the Republican nominating contest Saturday as he defeated his last remaining rival, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, in the Missouri Republican caucuses.

The Associated Press called the race for the former president shortly after voting began in caucus locations across the state. With 20% of the vote reported, 100% of the tally – a total of 183 votes – was in Trump’s column.

The front-runner has racked up substantial wins in all six contests held prior to Saturday.

Haley has said she’ll stay in the race at least through March 5, Super Tuesday, when Republicans voters in 15 states will head to the polls – even after suffering a humiliating loss in her home state of South Carolina last week.

Trump’s Missouri win Saturday was the start of a complex months-long process to allocate the state’s 54 convention delegates.

Under Missouri’s “caucus-convention” system, 11 delegates will be awarded to candidates at the state level and five from each of Missouri’s eight congressional districts.

Three remaining delegates are controlled by party officials, who can support any candidate they wish, regardless of the caucus results.

Democrats will hold their primary in Missouri on March 23.
