Veterans who patched up parts of southern border wall drop ‘lock it down’ rap video
A group of California veterans who have worked to fill in gaps at the US-Mexico border dropped a rap video Monday to hype their private efforts to address the immigration crisis.
The group, “Border Vets” planted hundreds of feet of razor wire as well as metal stakes in hotspots near Jacumba Hot Springs, roughly 60 miles outside of San Diego earlier this year.
“Lock it down. Stand tall for my veterans. Meet me at the wall. Stop them all. We can’t let ’em in,” veterans say in the music video, which features a montage of them buttressing the border.
The group dedicated the video to Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, who was brutally murdered near the University of Georgia in Athens during her morning run last month by a Venezuelan migrant suspect.
“We made the video to ignite something in the American population that would ensure WE THE PEOPLE are awake and are voting in leaders who will protect our nation,” Monroe said in a statement to The Post.
“Securing the border is the single most valuable thing we can do to protect our nation.”
Monroe, a retired Marine, initially began purchasing razor wire and patching up gaps in the border on her own but was quickly backed up by Border Vets in the endeavor.
Past private efforts to build the wall have faced legal questions in the past because Customs and Border Protection generally restricts the public from modifying the barrier.
However, so far Monroe has been undeterred. She is vying for California’s 49th Congressional District, which hugs the Golden State’s coast.
The seat is currently held by Rep. Mike Levin (D-Calif.) and is rated likely Democrat by the Cook Political Report.
Border security has emerged as a flashpoint ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election.
Both President Biden and his predecessor former President Donald Trump made dueling visits near the border last week.
Biden has sought to fend off GOP attacks for his record on the border, by pointing to how Republicans tanked a bipartisan Senate deal to bolster security last month.
Republicans claimed that the deal didn’t sufficiently address the issue, but Democrats have groused that the GOP is seeking to retain the border situation as a political issue for the general election.
In January, there were an estimated 176,205 migrant encounters at the US-Mexico border, down from the record 301,9983 encounters in December, according to US Customs and Border Patrol figures.
Biden is rumored to be mulling possible executive action on the border and is expected to address the issue during his State of the Union speech Thursday.
