Aaron Boone watches Yankees’ disastrous play in horror during ESPN interview

Aaron Boone was getting interviewed at an inopportune time for the Yankees.

With the Yankees playing the Mets at Clover Field on ESPN, Boone was getting interviewed in the dugout during the bottom of the third inning Tuesday afternoon.

With runners on second and third, Yankees pitcher Harrison Cohen threw a pitch that catcher Ben Rortvedt seemed to lose track of, as Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty came around to score.

During the play, Boone yelled at his pitcher and catcher in a hopeless attempt to help them locate the ball, while the rest of the Yankees in the field were not of much help.

“Ben Rortvedt could not pick up the baseball, and it didn’t look like other than Boone-y that he was getting a lot of help finding it,” ESPN play-by-play broadcaster Karl Ravech narrated.

Boone had a succinct response: “Not ideal.”

Over the weekend, Boone acknowledged that the path to trying to recapture the AL East crown will likely go through the Orioles.

“I think they’ll be really good again,” he told reporters on Saturday before the Yankees faced the Orioles in their first spring matchup against each other this year.

“Looking forward to that challenge. Obviously, they’ve come fully out of their rebuild and established a really good young core of players. It’s the American League East. You always look forward to going up against the best, but certainly they are formidable.”

The Yankees added Juan Soto this offseason to a team that went 82-80 last year, finishing 19 games behind the Orioles in the AL East.

The Yankees are favored to win the AL East at +120, and are +800 to win the World Series, according to the latest odds on FanDuel.
