Giants having serious ‘buyer’s remorse’ with Daniel Jones: Rich Eisen

The Giants wish they had a receipt.

Just one season after awarding Daniel Jones a four-year, $160 million extension, the Giants reportedly are “absolutely done” with the inconsistent quarterback, according to Rich Eisen.

“No. 3 of my top-five rumors I heard at the Combine are the Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones. Done. Done,” Eisen said Monday. “Might have to play him this year, but that ain’t it. And they feel … the words I heard at the Combine, multiple times, two words: buyer’s remorse.”

While Giants general manager Joe Schoen recently said he has faith in Jones as the team’s starting quarterback, that doesn’t mean Eisen’s report is baseless.

Schoen and his staff would have nothing to gain from publicly stating they no longer believe in Jones or are looking to move up in the draft for one of the top quarterback prospects.

And Jones did little to reward the staff’s belief in him.

After posting the best season of his career in his first year with Daboll at the helm, Jones struggled during an injury-plagued 2023 campaign.

Jones tossed just two touchdowns compared to six interceptions in his six starts, with the Giants winning just one of those games amid a 6-11 season.

It also shined more light on Jones’ struggles to stay on the field.

Jones has missed time due to injury in four of his five seasons. Last season was cut short by a torn ACL and Jones already missed games with a neck injury.

There is more evidence at this point that Jones is not a franchise quarterback than that he can turn the Giants into a perennial NFC contender.

The buyer’s remorse for the Giants comes in the form of the extension they awarded him that all but ensures he will be on the team for at least one more year.

Jones is guaranteed $35.5 million this upcoming season with a dead cap hit of $69.3 million, according to Spotrac.com, making it a near-lock he will be on the roster this season.

The Giants can move on from him in a less costly fashion after the 2024 campaign, when he only has a dead cap hit of $22.2 million, per Spotrac.com.

The Giants own the No. 6 pick in this year’s draft in what is expected to be a quarterback-heavy class, and Schoen and his staff must decide if they want to make a bold move.

They are in position to move up to the top three, which would put them in position for potentially Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, but they could also just stay at their slot with J.J. McCarthy a possibility.

If they don’t love either option, a top playmaker such as LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers could be a fit, as The Post’s Steve Serby predicted in his latest mock draft.
