Jason Kelce said he was surprised when Nick Foles’ wife gave her stamp of approval for him to mention her husband’s genitalia in his retirement speech on Monday.
The former Eagles center, who called it a career after 13 seasons with Philadelphia, reminisced about winning the Super Bowl in 2018 with Foles and said the quarterback had the “biggest d–k on the team” because he suggested they run the famous “Philly Special” play, which ended in a touchdown pass to Foles.
On Wednesday’s installment of his and Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, Jason explained that both Foles and his wife, Tori, approved of the story making the final version of his speech.
“It’s just so legendary I felt like it needed to be a part of it,” Jason said, referring to Foles’ biggest game of his life, a 41-33 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 2018. “That was an iconic moment in the Super Bowl. Nick and [then-head coach] Doug [Pederson] together somehow decided to a call trick play on fourth down and it ended up being one of the biggest plays in football history at this point.
“I texted Nick to make sure he was OK with it. He was like ‘yeah you can tell everybody it,’ but the surprising one was when he said ‘I asked Tori,’ and Tori gave the OK. That was the surprising part. I was like, ‘OK, alright.'”
Travis laughed and chimed in, “Thanks Tor! Everyone enjoyed it. A lot of people were saying it’s their favorite part of it.”
The Chiefs tight end then asked Jason if he thinks “any other retirement speech past or present has ever mentioned a teammate’s… hammer?”
Jason responded with: “I hope it doesn’t become a common place that everybody’s just referencing [that].”
The future Hall-of-Fame center sobbed through most of his 40-minute speech, which took place at the Eagles’ facility, where his family was front and center.
Jason’s speech included a trip down memory lane of his most impactful moments in Philadelphia.
“I won’t forget Nick Foles having the biggest game of his life, on the biggest stage possible — and the biggest d–k on the team, going up to Doug Pederson, and asking for the Philly Special,” Kelce said of Super Bowl LII, when Foles replaced an injured Carson Wentz and was named Super Bowl MVP.
“And Doug Pederson having the biggest balls in the stadium … to say, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’”
With a 15-12 lead, the Eagles’ offense went for it on fourth-and-goal from New England’s 1-yard line right before the end of the first half.
Kelce snapped the ball to running back Corey Clement, who handed the rock to tight end Trey Burton, who then threw it to a wide-open Foles for the touchdown.
Foles out-dueled then-Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and produced 373 yards and four touchdowns (three passing, one receiving).
