Trae Young up for 3-point shooting contest against Caitlin Clark

We might have an heir apparent to Steph Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu.

After the Warriors great and Liberty star vied against each other in a much acclaimed 3-point shooting contest during the NBA All-Star weekend last month, Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks asked Hawks guard Trae Young if he’d be willing to go up against Caitlin Clark.

Young did not need to ruminate on the idea for long.

“Of course I would,” Young said with a big grin on his face.

“I’ve gotten to talk to her, too, throughout her college years. We’re the only two people that ever led college in points and assists. That’s a crazy stat. I would. I’d have to definitely practice a lot more than I have for these previous 3-point competitions … I’d be ready for sure.”

In her senior season at Iowa, Clark is averaging 32.3 points, 8.7 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Iowa is ranked third overall in the latest AP poll, with a 26-4 record, and is +700 to win the national championship, according to the latest odds on FanDuel.

The Hawkeyes only trail South Carolina, which is the odds-on favorite at -130, and defending champion LSU, which has +600 odds.

Last week, Clark announced that she would declare for the 2024 WNBA Draft upon completion of the season.

While she has played four years at Iowa, she could have had one extra year of eligibility due to NCAA COVID-19 contingencies.

Clark and Iowa were a TV ratings juggernaut all season, and this past Sunday their game against Ohio State drew 3.4 million viewers on Fox, the biggest regular season women’s college basketball audience since UConn faced Tennessee in 1999.

Clark is presumably going to be selected first overall by the Indiana Fever in the draft.
