DJ LeMahieu finds hitting groove, rips RBI double for Yankees

Noteworthy items from the Yankees’ Grapefruit League action on Friday:

Hits the spot

DJ LeMahieu entered Friday with one hit in his first 12 at-bats of the spring, but looked like himself against the Blue Jays.

The veteran delivered a single and an RBI double (both to the opposite field) in his first two trips to the plate against Chris Bassitt before walking in his third at-bat.

He also made a nice barehanded play at third base. “DJ has, the whole time, looked right to me,” Aaron Boone said. “Really good at-bats today.”

No relief!

Non-roster reliever Yerry De Los Santos got roughed up for the second time in as many outings, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Caught my eye

Juan Soto took a huge hack at a 69 mph curveball from Bassitt, losing his balance and falling to his knees in the process. But Soto laughed off the miss, then put together a seven-pitch at-bat before striking out.

Saturday’s schedule

Nestor Cortes is set to make his third start of the spring when the Yankees face the Twins at 1:05 p.m. in Fort Myers.
