Jackson Mahomes pleads no contest to battery charge

Jackson Mahomes pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge in Kansas City on Thursday.

Mahomes, 23, the younger brother of superstar Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was charged in connection with an incident at a restaurant in Overland Park, Kan., in which he was accused of shoving a waiter and grabbing the owner’s neck and forcibly kissing her in February 2023.

Mahomes was sentenced to six months’ probation, according to the Associated Press, which added that he “was taken into the custody of the Johnson County Sheriff’s office, which will determine whether he is eligible for work release.”

The felony charges related to the sexual battery accusations were dropped earlier this year after the restaurant owner refused to testify.

“Like I said from the beginning, Jackson has done nothing wrong. We had full confidence that the truth of the matter would ultimately be revealed. The defense will reserve further comment until the remaining count is disposed of,” Mahomes’ attorney, Brandon Davies, said in a statement when his client’s sexual battery charges were dropped.

Last May, Patrick Mahomes was asked about the legal issues his brother was facing.

“Honestly, it’s kind of a personal thing that I just kind of gotta keep to myself,” the Chiefs quarterback said at the time.

“At the end of the day, I come here to play football and try to take care of my family at the same time. So just kind of keep it to myself and just go out there and play football when I’m in the building.”

Jackson and Patrick’s mother, Randi, claimed before the Super Bowl that her family was dealing with “fake allegations” against Jackson.

“We put this pasture behind us. There were some fake allegations against him that finally came out, which was a lot…,” Randi said. “We were blessed that it all got dropped because of the situation, for other reasons.”
