Tiger Woods won’t compete in Players Championship as 2024 Masters looms

Tiger Woods will miss next week’s tournament on the PGA Tour schedule.

Woods was not among the names listed on the 144-golfer field for The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass as the 5 p.m. Friday deadline to enter the tournament came and went.

This comes after the 48-year-old withdrew from February’s Genesis Invitational in the middle of the second round after what was first described as an “illness” and that Woods later clarified was “influenza.”

It was Woods’ first full-field PGA Tournament since he exited from the 2023 Masters, after which he underwent surgery on his ankle.

“I would like to confirm that I had to withdraw from @thegenesisinv due to illness, which we now know is influenza,” Woods wrote on X after leaving the tournament. “I am resting and feeling better. Good luck to the players this weekend. I’m disappointed to not be there and want to thank @GenesisUSA and all the fans for the support.”

He did, however, compete in Monday’s Seminole Pro-Member event, getting paired with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh.

The two finished tied for 44th (2-under 70) in the field, which included 78 teams.

It’s unclear if Woods will take part in March 21’s Valspar Championship or the following Texas Children’s Houston Open.

The Valero Open starts on April 4, but the Masters starts one week later.

Woods has won The Players Championship twice, mostly recently in 2013.
