Rising Republican star Katie Britt shreds Biden on border, rising costs in SOTU rebuttal

Alabama Sen. Katie Britt slammed President Biden as a “dithering and diminished leader” — and lashed out at his handling of the migrant crisis in a no-holds-barred GOP rebuttal to the State of the Union address.

The first-term senator, viewed as a rising star in the Republican Party, sat at her kitchen table as she warned of a dismal future for America if Biden is re-elected for a second term.

“The country we know and love seems to be slipping away, and it feels like the next generation will have fewer opportunities –- and less freedoms — than we did. I worry my own children may not even get a shot at living their American Dreams,” Britt said.

Britt, the youngest woman elected to the Senate, opened her fiery speech by taking a swipe at Biden’s advanced age, labeling the 81-year-old president “a permanent politician who has actually been in office for longer than I’ve even been alive.”

“Right now, our commander-in-chief is not in command. The free world deserves better than a dithering and diminished leader,” she argued. “America deserves leaders who recognize that secure borders, stable prices, safe streets, and a strong defense are the cornerstones of a great nation.”

The 42-year-old mom of two, who has made immigration a top issue, also ripped Biden on his border policy, calling it a “disgrace” that has led to record numbers of migrants pouring into the US.

“It’s despicable. And it’s almost entirely preventable,” she fumed.

Britt noted that Biden mentioned in his speech the death of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, who was allegedly killed by an illegal migrant — but claimed the president “refused to take responsibility for his own actions.”

“Mr. President, enough is enough. Innocent Americans are dying and you only have yourself to blame. Fulfill your oath of office,” Britt said. “Reverse your policies and this crisis and stop the suffering.”

A former congressional aide, Britt was elected to the Senate in 2022 with former President Donald Trump’s blessing. She promised to come to Washington as a “momma on a mission.”

She has become the third woman to be selected by the GOP to respond to Biden’s State of the Union addresses, following in the footsteps of Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders in 2023 and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds in 2022.

Britt took a swipe at soft-on-crime Democrats, accusing them of coddling criminals, defunding the police and cutting repeat offenders loose.

Britt then sought to pick apart Biden’s policies, starting with the ongoing crisis at the southern border that’s seen a historic number of migrants cross into the US. James Keivom

“The result is tragic but foreseeable — from our small towns to America’s most iconic city streets, life is getting more and more dangerous,” she said.

Britt also hit out at the president’s economic approach, arguing that his “reckless spending” has caused the cost of living to skyrocket, leaving families “struggling to make ends meet.”

“The American people are scraping by while the president proudly proclaims ‘Bidenomics’ is working!”  she said. “Bless his heart. We know better.”

Turning to Biden’s foreign policy blunders, Britt raked the commander-in-chief over the coals for overseeing the “disastrous” 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan and pushing a renewed nuclear agreement with Iran.

“We’ve become a nation in retreat,” Britt lamented. “And the enemies of freedom see an opportunity.”

Britt, who endorsed Trump in December, did not mention the Republican presidential frontrunner by name in her rebuttal — but she stressed that the US  is at a crossroads, and “I know which choice our children deserve — and the choice the Republican Party is fighting for.”
