Aaron Rodgers teases his new retirement timeline as he readies for Jets comeback

Aaron Rodgers has an idea of how much longer he wants to play in the NFL.

And it involves multiple seasons.

The Jets signal-caller discussed his attempt to get back on the field in a recent episode of the “Look Into It with Eddie Bravo” podcast and then revealed he would like to play as many as four more years in the league.

“I got back on the practice field late in the season, and I couldn’t get to a top speed sprinting,” he said on the show. “But really been in a good place, rehab-wise, from the start and feeling really good. Again, I’m hopeful I can play two or three or four more years. But you need to have some good fortune there, too.”

Rodgers’ first season with the Jets came crashing down early, as he went down with an Achilles tear just four plays into Week 1’s “Monday Night Football” battle with the Bills.

The 40-year-old teased a potential comeback after undergoing surgery, and in late November, he did indeed return to the practice field when the Jets opened up the 21-day practice window and noted that “anything is possible.”

On Dec. 20, though, the dream of a return was ended as the Jets faded out of playoff contention.

The day before, though, Rodgers did say on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he wanted to play beyond 2024, holding a desire to play for the Jets for at least two more years.

“I don’t think that next year will be my last year,’’ Rodgers said on the show. “I felt like when I came here that I got kind of a renewed passion and love for the game. I felt like I wanted to play [with the Jets] at least two years and I feel like this year is kind of a lost year now that I only played a couple of snaps. I wasn’t able to go out there and prove what I’m capable of and see what we’re capable of as a team. …

“I feel like I can play more years and I can be effective in my 40s, which is crazy because I thought that I’d probably be sitting on a couch somewhere at 40. But now I want to be starter at 40, I want to be a starter at 41. I want to see what I get out of this body.’’

Rodgers made the rounds on the podcast circuit this week, previously joining the “Keep Hammering Collective” show.

He pinpointed things he believes the Jets need this offseason, including moves to “shore up” the offensive line and add at the wide receiver position, both areas he singled out during a “Thursday Night Football” interview in late December.
