British warship destroys two Houthi drones with high-powered missile: video

A British warship successfully destroyed two Houthi drones with a high-powered missile overnight, video footage showed.

The HMS Richmond used its Sea Ceptor missiles to shoot down two attack drones Friday night, Defense Secretary Grant Shapps write on X alongside the footage.

“The UK and our allies will continue to take the action necessary to save lives and protect freedom of navigation,” Shapps said.

The grainy, black and white video appeared to show a drone exploding in mid-air after straying into the missile’s crosshairs.

The Yemen-backed Houthis have launched attacks on ships in the Red Sea since November, in protest of Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Early Saturday, the US Central Command said that it partnered with coalition forces to intercept 15 more drones that posed an “imminent threat to merchant vessels.”

The barrage of Houthi attacks has forced several shipping companies to reroute their vessels through the Red Sea, which is one of the busiest waterways in the world.

Earlier this week, the Houthis killed three crew members when they launched a missile strike on a Barbados-flagged vessel, forcing others aboard to jump ship in the Gulf of Aden.

Last Saturday, a Belize-flagged ship attacked days earlier sank in the Red Sea, the first vessel to be completely destroyed since the Houthi attacks began.
