Coyotes’ Dylan Guenther had water turned off after he didn’t pay bill

Even professional athletes have to pay bills.

Arizona Coyotes forward Dylan Guenther learned that the hard way. Guenther and his roommate, Jack McBain, had their water turned off after they forgot to pay their utility bill.

“I think we’re kind of the laughingstock of the team as far as our living situation goes,” Guenther said on NHL Network’s “NHL Tonight” on Wednesday.

“The water shut off on us yesterday. We weren’t paying the bills, so we got that covered, but no, we have some fun. It’s a good time,” Guenther added. “I mean you don’t realize how much you need the water until you go brush your teeth and you don’t have water.”

The 20-year-old Guenther clarified that there was some confusion in paying the bills, and he and McBain didn’t just forget to pay.

“We thought the electricity and the water was kind of a two-in-one and turns out it wasn’t,” he said.

The two went 14-16 hours without water and had to use bottled water to clean their dishes.

“We thought we’d probably have to go a couple more months and then they shut it off,” Guenther said. “They shut it off pretty quick but it’s nice we got it back on.”

Guenther was called up from the Tuscon Roadrunners in January, and the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NHL draft has eight goals and nine assists in 27 games played. His 17 points are a new career high.

Last season Guenther appeared in 33 games, notching six goals and nine assists.

The Coyotes play the recently eliminated Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

They need nothing short of a miracle to sneak into the playoffs. Arizona has 57 points, 18 behind the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights for the final wild-card spot in the West.

The Coyotes have 18 games left to play in the season.
