Russell Wilson shaded by ex-Broncos cornerback Chris Harris after Jerry Jeudy trade

The hits keep coming for Russell Wilson — even from a Broncos alum who wasn’t part of the quarterback’s disappointing tenure in Denver.

Shortly after news emerged Saturday that the Broncos are trading receiver Jerry Jeudy to the Browns for fifth- and sixth-round picks, former Denver cornerback Chris Harris called out critics of the 24-year-old wideout by taking a shot at the team’s soon-to-be ex-quarterback.

“Yall people really think Jeudy Trash lol it’s hard to play when your QB misses you every week,” Harris posted Saturday afternoon on X.

When one X user replied, “Weren’t you just taking up for Russ?” Harris said, “I was talking about his contract not his play lol.”

Harris played for the Broncos from 2011-19. He joined the Chargers in 2020, the same year the Broncos selected Jeudy with the 15th overall pick in the NFL draft.

The former Alabama product had a lackluster four seasons in Denver, where tallied 211 receptions, 3,053 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

Jeudy, who caught passes from Wilson for two seasons, often defended the Super Bowl-winning quarterback amid mounting criticism.

“Russ is a soldier,” Jeudy told reporters last June. “So just the way he handles his business, the way he handles situations, I just know the type of guy he is and the stuff that he can overcome. In the situations like that, that don’t put no fear into a man’s heart. And I know that this year, he got a big year coming ahead.”

Jeudy, 24, was right as Wilson, 35, showed improvement this past season following an awful 2022, in which he posted a career-low completion percentage (60.5) and in touchdowns (16).

In his first season with head coach Sean Payton, Wilson completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Wilson appeared in just 15 games last season before being benched for the final two for refusing to amend his contract.

The move paved the way for an inevitable Broncos divorce, which was formally announced last Monday.

The Broncos — who originally signed Wilson to a five-year contract extension worth more than $242 million — said they will cut him after the start of the new league year and will swallow $85 million in dead cap money.

Wilson has since found another NFL home in the Steelers, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting Sunday that Wilson plans to sign “a team-friendly, one-year deal.”

Though Jeudy and Wilson will be suiting up for different teams in 2024, they’ll be seeing plenty of each other as the Browns and Steelers are AFC North rivals.
