Driver crushed between 2 vehicles during road-rage fight in middle of Cross Bronx Expressway, wild video shows
A man was crushed between two vehicles in a caught-on-video road rage incident on the Cross Bronx Expressway last week.
The altercation happened on the expressway near Jesup Avenue on March 5 during the morning rush hour around 9:30, according to cops.
The video, which appears to be taken by another driver, captures the moment a BMW SUV drives diagonally across a lane to block a minivan.
The driver of the BMW then exits his vehicle and comes around to the driver-side window of the minivan and appears to say something before reaching into the window to hit the minivan driver.
The BMW driver then stomps back to his vehicle, but the minivan driver throws things at the BMW.
The BMW driver then gets back out of his vehicle and again walks over to the window of the minivan, where its driver reaches out and grabs his shirt.
The two appear to exchange more angry words before the BMW driver reaches in through the minivan’s window and starts hitting the motorist.
The video shows other cars driving by — and slowing down to watch the spectacle of the fighting men.
The BMW driver eventually opens the minivan’s door to continue the beatdown of the man behind the wheel.
The man in the BMW eventually goes back to the vehicle, but the other driver jumps out of his minivan and tries to get into the backseat of the other car.
But the BMW drives off, squishing the minivan driver between the two vehicles.
The driver of the minivan suffered a broken collarbone, police said.
Both cars have been traced to drivers in New Jersey, according to investigators, but they aren’t sure if the man seen in the BMW is the same person who owns it.
The driver of the minivan, who police described as a 66-year-old Asian man, told police he may not be interested in pressing charges.
Police became aware of the incident because of a Crimestoppers tip.
“The victim themselves never reported it,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told reporters during a briefing Tuesday.
“We reached out to the victim, identified him by his license plate … and he is at this time unsure whether or not he wants to pursue criminal charges,” Kenny said.
The DA’s office can still press charges even without the cooperation of the victim, he added.
The video was shared on X by former New York City Council candidate Yin Tang who said the angry exchange went viral on Chinese social media.
