Elderly woman drowned trying to save husband from heart attack on ‘paradise’ Caribbean beach: cops

An elderly British couple were found dead on a Caribbean beach — with the wife appearing to have drowned while trying to save her husband as he had a heart attack, according to cops.

Rosaline Foster, 77, was found Saturday at L’Esterre Paradise Beach on the island of Carriacou, Grenada, with her 76-year-old husband, David John Foster, “lying on the sand” nearby, the Royal Grenada Police Force said.

The husband was pronounced dead at the scene while his wife’s death was pronounced later at the Princess Royal Hospital.

“The basic facts seem to suggest the man may have suffered a heart attack and the lady may have gone to his assistance, and she probably would have drowned,” Cpl. Ardell Lewis told BBC News.

Autopsies will determine the official causes of death.

The Fosters were both retired and had been on vacation with other family members on the island, which was voted the best Caribbean beach in 2022, the BBC noted.

The tragedy came after an American couple was kidnapped and allegedly murdered when three escaped prisoners hijacked their sailboat off the coast of Grenada.

The bodies of Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel — who were last seen near their docked catamaran on the island of St. George’s on Feb. 18 – have not been recovered.
