Curtis Samuel agrees to three-year, $30M contract with Bills

After some confusion over the Bills landing one player, it seems they have firmly landed a different one at a completely different position.

Wide receiver Curtis Samuel has agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract that has the potential to reach up to $30 million, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

The new deal also includes $15 million in guaranteed money.

The news of Samuel’s arrival comes after it appeared that Buffalo had been the front-runner to sign defensive lineman Arik Armstead, only to have the Jaguars beat the Bills out on a deal for him.

Samuel heads to the Bills already knowing a few of the key players inside the franchise, having previously worked with Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and general manager Brandon Beane during their time with the Panthers together.

Brady had been the Panthers’ offensive coordinator during the 2020 season when Samuel had been there and had his best season in a Carolina uniform, recording 851 receiving yards and rushing for another 200 yards.

Beane was the team’s assistant general manager when they drafted him in 2016.

Samuel spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Panthers before he signed a three-year deal with the Commanders in 2021.

The wide receiver played just five games during his first season in Washington, but followed it up with two productive seasons in 2022 and 2023.

He had 1,269  receiving yards and eight touchdowns in the final two years he played with the Commanders.

Samuel likely will take on the role as the Bills’ No. 2 receiver behind Stefon Diggs and replaces former wider receiver Gabe Davis, who signed with the Jaguars earlier this week.

Samuel has 4,098 total yards on 317 receptions and 121 carries along with 29 touchdowns over his seven years in the NFL.
