Mike Tyson starts training for Jake Paul fight: ‘The fun has just begun’

The countdown to the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight is on.

The Baddest Man on the Planet shared a sneak peek of his first day of training to take on The Problem Child in a heavyweight boxing event on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Taking to his social media, Tyson shared a 10-second clip of him hitting pads with his coach Rafael Cordeiro — a former fighter, who founded King MMA fight academy in 2008.

“It’s day 1…the fun has just begun,” the 57-year-old Tyson said in the video, while including the same message on his caption.

Tyson began working with Cordeiro in 2020 to train for his fight against Roy Jones Jr. that November, which ended in a draw.

The eight-round exhibition was the main event of Tyson’s Legends Only League — and Paul knocked out Nate Robinson in a light heavyweight bout on the same card.

The much-anticipated Tyson-Paul bout was a long time coming, as the heavyweight champ and the 27-year-old YouTube personality have addressed it on previous occasions.

During a 2022 episode of his “Hotboxin’” podcast, Tyson told UFC commentator Joe Rogan he would fight Paul for one reason: to break records for pay-per-view buys.

“Let’s do it Jakey, God wouldn’t that be cool?” Tyson said at the time.

That same year, Tyson claimed he and Paul did mushrooms together while partying together in the Caribbean.

“I’ve been smoking with him forever, I did some shrooms with him as well,” Tyson said at the time. “I was with him in St. Barts not too long ago partying.”

Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) vs. Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) will stream live exclusively on Netflix on July 20.

Paul is coming off back-to-back knockouts against pro boxers and Golden Glove winners Ryan Bourland on March 2 and Andre August in December 2023.

The Tyson-Paul fight received criticism from some members of the combat sports community, including  former UFC champion and current analyst Michael Bisping.

The event is the first-ever partnership between Netflix and Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP).
