Apple’s Patriots docuseries ‘The Dynasty’ has ‘petty’ omission from Super Bowl loss

There appears to be some selective editing in “The Dynasty.”

An X user noted how Al Michaels’ call of the “Philly Special” from Super Bowl LII is edited to omit former Eagles quarterback Nick Foles, who caught the pass from Trey Burton.

In Michaels’ original call of the iconic play, the NBC announcer said: “And they’re gonna snap it, and it’s Trey Burton who throws, caught, Foles, touchdown.”

“The Dynasty”s” version lacked one critical word from Michaels’ call.

“And they’re gonna snap it, and it’s Trey Burton who throws, caught, touchdown,” Michaels said.

The “Philly Special” gave the Eagles a 10-point lead entering halftime, and Philadelphia ultimately bested the Patriots, 41-33, to win its first Super Bowl in 2018.

One theory, as floated by the user, is that Tom Brady did not want Foles mentioned.

Brady did not shake Foles’ hand after the game, and also after a regular-season loss years later to the Bears, when Foles played for Chicago.

“They edited out the word Foles. It took them longer to do that than just to play the thing anyway,” the user said. “I don’t know why they did that. Maybe because Tom Brady participated in this doc and he’s still bitter about losing to that man in the Super Bowl, maybe it was something. All I know: super, super petty.”

Brady has maintained there was no ill will behind the handshake snubs.

“I didn’t even think about that,” Brady said in 2020, according to NBC Sports Boston. “I think Nick Foles is a hell of a player and a Super Bowl champ. I don’t know one reason or another why I wouldn’t do that. Sometimes I run off the field, sometimes I haven’t.

“Sometimes if I have a personal relationship like I have with Drew [Brees] and Justin [Herbert] and Aaron [Rodgers] over the years — I don’t know, I don’t think it’s anything in particular other than I have great admiration for Nick and I think he’s a hell of a player.”
