Summer at a bold Long Island home from the ‘King of East-Coast Chic’

Interior designer Anthony Baratta, known as “the King of East-Coast Chic,” is listing his eye-popping, contemporary home in under-the-radar Flanders (not far from where the North and South Forks of Long Island meet) as a Memorial Day to Labor Day summer rental, for $55,000. Baratta’s colorful design work has been showcased on the cover of 70 shelter magazines, and he has quite the eclectic résumé.

He’s collab’ed with Italian label Max Mara, served as the designer in residence at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, and renovated Drumthwacket — the historic New Jersey governor’s mansion — for Gov. Phil Murphy and his wife, Tammy Murphy, who is running for US Senate. (The Murphys live in their own $10 million mansion in Middletown, NJ, but host events at Drumthwacket. In 2018 and 2019, they donated at least $107,000 in antique furniture purchased from Anthony Baratta Designs in New York to Drumthwacket.)

The designer’s postmodern, two-bedroom, two-bathroom home, at 707 Pleasure Drive, was built in 1979 and comes with a pool, deck and lots of mature trees. It sits on 4½ acres and is surrounded by a reserve.

Inside, there’s a living room, an open chef’s kitchen, a dining area and a main bedroom that features Baratta’s signature bold colors and plenty of storage space. He also transformed a detached garage into a chic studio/ office space.
