Seton Hall squeaks past St. Joseph’s in OT to win NIT opener

Al-Amir Dawes scored a game-high 26 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime, to lead Seton Hall to a 75-72 overtime win over St. Joseph’s in the first round of the NIT on Wednesday night at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J.

Dawes scored 15 second-half points and hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

He also had 10 rebounds in a double-double for Seton Hall (21-12).

Dylan Addae-Wusu — who knocked down three 3-pointers and was 6-for-12 from the field — poured in 18 points, while Dre Davis added 14 points for the Pirates.

Erik Reynolds II led St. Joseph’s (21-14) with 27 points and three steals.

Christ Essandoko added 14 points and eight rebounds for Saint Joseph’s, and Xzayvier Brown finished with 13 points, six rebounds and 10 assists.

The Pirates will face North Texas, 84-77 winners over LSU, in the second round.

Seton Hall’s NCAA Tournament bubble burst after its 91-72 loss to St. John’s in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament last week.
