Biden campaign targets black, Latino voters in new ads as polls show Trump wooing demographics

The Biden campaign is aggressively courting black and Latino swing-state voters as polling consistently shows the president struggling to hold support among the traditional Democratic-leaning demographics.

Biden has expressed concern about his dipping numbers among Latino voters, with the 81-year-old telling a few dozen supporters at a campaign event in Arizona Tuesday night, “I need you back.”

Former President Donald Trump, meanwhile, could see record levels of black support in November, with one poll showing him as high as 23% among African American registered voters.

The same survey, from the New York Times and Siena College, showed Trump, 77, leading Biden 46% to 40% among self-described Hispanic voters.

In response, the Biden campaign has come out with two new ads aimed at black voters in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin that will run between March 17 and April 21.

The commercials feature Biden speaking directly to black voters, claiming “the Trump economy failed black America” by cutting health insurance and giving tax breaks to the wealthy.

“The stakes are extremely high for Black America and unlike Donald Trump, President Biden and Vice President Harris have put in the work and are not taking a single voter for granted,” Biden-Harris principal deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks in a statement.

Meanwhile, in connection with Biden’s stop in Arizona Tuesday, the campaign launched “Latinos con Biden-Harris,” a nationwide program targeting the demographic that went for the Democrat by a 2-to-1 margin in 2020.

The president’s camp also launched a $30 million ad buy to court Latino voters while Biden was making his rounds in Nevada, Arizona and Texas.

The ad, running in English and Spanish, focuses on Biden’s efforts to lower insulin costs and his pro-abortion stance, saying “this is the difference between Joe Biden or Donald Trump.”

“This is not parachuting into any community two weeks before the election saying, ‘The stakes are way too high.’ The stakes are high. We’re starting months and months and months, even before the Democratic convention this summer, to get the message out … and getting out the vote,” said Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), a Biden-Harris national advisory board member.

The president also recorded two radio interviews with Spanish-speaking programs on Tuesday, claiming that his presumptive November opponent “despises Latinos.”

“He separated kids and parents at the border, and caged children,” Biden told Univision radio. “[He’s] planning mass deportations of literally several million people who are here in the country. Several million people. And he wants to end birthright citizenship.”
