CEO of London Clinic speaks out on Kate Middleton document breach investigation: All ‘disciplinary steps’ will be taken
The CEO of the UK hospital where Kate Middleton had her planned abdominal surgery says it will take all “regulatory and disciplinary steps” after a staffer allegedly breached the Princess of Wales’ medical records.
“Everyone at the London Clinic is acutely aware of our individual, professional, ethical and legal duties with regards to patient confidentiality,” Al Russell said in a statement Wednesday.
“We take enormous pride in the outstanding care and discretion we aim to deliver for all our patients that put their trust in us every day.”
He said the hospital has “systems in place to monitor [the] management of patient information,” and vowed that if there were a breach “all appropriate investigatory, regulatory and disciplinary steps will be taken.”
“There is no place at our hospital for those who intentionally breach the trust of any of our patients or colleagues,” Russell said.

His comments come just days after a hospital insider claimed that at least one staffer tried to access Middleton’s medical records during her stay in January.
The unidentified insider called the breach “incredibly damaging for the hospital, given its unblemished reputation for treating members of the Royal Family,” in comments to the Mirror.
The insider also claimed the hospital reached out to Kensington Palace right after officials became aware of the apparent breach.
“The whole medical staff have been left utterly shocked and distraught over the allegations and were very hurt that a trusted colleague could have allegedly been responsible for such a breach of trust and ethics,” the insider told the Mirror.
During her stay at the historic medical center, Middleton was under the care of watchful doctors and nurses in her own private room
There, the mother-of-two was treated to a personalized food menu and internet access.
The London Clinic is also considered to be one of the most high-end medical facilities, boasting state-of-the-art equipment and wards for surgeries in urology, gynecology, thoracic surgery, orthopedics and spinal procedures.
According to British health watchdog Care Quality Commission (CQC), the hospital has about 23,000 inpatients a year, with a further 110,000 outpatients, which currently includes King Charles.
