Dave Portnoy bet $600,000 on this team to win March Madness 2024

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy has $600,000 riding on 2024 March Madness and is hoping for a repeat of last year.

Portnoy’s massive wager on the UConn Huskies to win the NCAA Tournament this year sits at +360 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook and would win him $2.16 million if Dan Hurley’s group can repeat.

UConn would be the first group to win it all in back-to-back years since the 2006-07 Florida Gators.

The Huskies are the overall No. 1 seed of the tournament, garnering a brutal bracket in the East Region with potential matchups against FAU, San Diego State, Auburn, Iowa State and Illinois.

Two of those teams — FAU and San Diego State — made the Final Four last season, while Auburn (No. 4), Illinois (No. 3) and Iowa State (No. 2) rate very well on KenPom.

That’s not scaring Portnoy, though.

“I have made a large bet,” Portnoy said on X. “I really don’t think there is anybody who can play with UConn.

“Like +360 is not great odds but at the same time great odds. Yes I am worried that everybody is picking them.”

UConn was the most-picked team in ESPN’s Tournament Challenge to win it this year, garnering 24.7 percent of picks to win the bracket.

Portnoy also has a second bet that he posted on X, an extreme long shot on the New Mexico Lobos to win the West Region at 22/1 on DraftKings.

The $25,000 bet would win $575,000 if New Mexico pulls it off.

Betting on March Madness 2025?

New Mexico is a No. 11 seed matched up with No. 6 Clemson in the first round, where they are 2.5-point favorites against Clemson on Friday.

If the Lobos take care of business against Clemson, they would face the Baylor-Colgate winner, followed by potential battles with the Arizona Wildcats and North Carolina Tar Heels.
