NYC storm set to dump up to 3 inches of rain with Saturday ‘washout’ expected

Time to break out the rain boots!

New York City is set to experience its first spring showers this weekend with blustery winds and up to 3 inches of rain expected to drench the Big Apple on Saturday.

“It’s going to be breezy. The rain will move in Friday night and last pretty much all day Saturday,” Fox Forecast Center Meteorologist Dax Clark told The Post on Thursday. “Saturday is going to be a washout.”

Rain will begin soaking the city late Friday and stick around until Sunday when conditions will become dry and sunny.

New Yorkers should expect between 2 and 3 inches of rain and winds between 20 and 30 miles per hour, Clark said.

“It will look pretty gross on Saturday,” Clark warned, “But it will move out as we move on to Sunday.”

Some areas may receive higher amounts, while rain totals may be slightly lower across the interior of the Lower Hudson Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

It does not seem likely that New York City will end up underwater thanks to the upcoming storm, however, areas in the tri-state may experience greater chances of flooding.

“There is a low risk of flooding. The best chances for flooding are going to be on Long Island though. A little bit more rain could fall just east of the city,” Clark said.

The National Weather Service said coastal flooding and beach erosion are a low risk.

The exact timing of the heaviest rainfall remains unclear.

Snow will likely miss New York City this time around, according to the Fox Forecast Center.

Moving farther north and stretching into New England, snow accumulations of 6 inches or more are expected in some areas under winter weather alerts, with up to 8 inches or more in more mountainous regions.
