Hangry flyer hits back at airline over half-hearted vegetarian meal: ‘Even the cucumber looks unhappy’
Call it a sad-wich.
A vegetarian voyager flew off the handle after an unnamed airline left them high and hangry at 30,000 feet with a meal that truly managed to put the “plain” in airplane.
Now, the miffed meat eschewer is roasting the allegedly careless carrier via a Reddit post that’s currently taking off with viewers.

According to the plant-eating passenger’s partner, who penned the digital diatribe, the veggie option — served 8 hours into a punishing, 12 hour journey was a dry bun with two slices of tomato, two thin slices of cucumber and nothing more.
Accompanying pics show the runty repast, which evoked a half-made Subway sandwich.
Needless to say, the Redditariat had a field day with the Spartan nosh, with one commenter writing, “That sandwich looks like the legal department made it — it’s a sandwich and it has vegetables.”
Another observed, “Even the cucumber looks unhappy.”
“Just falafel would complete the sandwich,” one Redditor said of the sarcastic-seeming offering, to which another wisecracked, “Falafel is for first class passengers. Eat your unseasoned cucumber and tomato.”

However, others observed that the meagre meal was far from the saddest vegetarian option offered in the sky of late.
“On Japan Airlines the vegan menu is just a banana, so it could be worse,” said one, referencing a 2023 incident in which a plant-eating passenger on said airline was offered the lone potassium torpedo on a plate with chopsticks.
That same year, herbivore Juanita Headley ripped KLM Dutch Airlines for allegedly serving her only fruit and nuts during a six-hour, 4,500-mile-long flight from Accra, Ghana to London, UK.
“Thank God I don’t have a nut allergy or I would have been on fruit rations,” the irate Londoner griped.
