Jordan Montgomery agrees to contract with Diamondbacks to end long free agency

Jordan Montgomery has finally, finally found a new home — and it’s not New York.

The left-hander has agreed to a contract with the Diamondbacks, The Post’s Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman confirmed on Tuesday night.

Montgomery, who won the World Series with the Rangers last season, will get paid $25 million this season with a vesting option for a second, according to Heyman.

He will make $20 million if he makes 10 starts and can make as much as $25 million if he reaches 23 starts.

The hurler can opt out of the deal for next year, however, if he hits the 10-start threshold.

Sherman reported Monday that the Mets and Yankees both had not shut the door on bringing in Montgomery.

Both teams will be without their respective aces, Gerrit Cole (nerve inflammation in his right elbow) and Kodai Senga (strain of his right shoulder capsule), to start the year, leaving them with significant holes at the top of their rotations with Opening Day approaching on Thursday.

But Montgomery is no longer an option for either team as he leaves the World Series winners for the defending National League champions.

The southpaw, a 2014 fourth-round pick of the Yankees who was dealt to the Cardinals at the 2022 trade deadline, has been a reliable arm in whatever rotation he’s been in.

He’s thrown at least 157 innings in each of the last three seasons, setting a career-high with 188 ²/₃ innings last year between the Cardinals and Rangers.

He made his biggest mark with Texas though, pitching to a 2.79 ERA in 11 regular-season starts down the stretch as it got into the playoffs as a wild card.

Montgomery had his strong moments in the playoffs, too, notably making two starts (and a relief appearance) against the Astros in the ALCS posting a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings as Texas won the pennant before beating the D’backs in five games in the World Series.

All of that October success came after the Yankees dealt him to St. Louis when he was shaping up to be the odd-man out of the Bombers’ 2022 playoff rotation after they acquired Frankie Montas from the A’s.

Arizona fortifies an already strong offseason in which it signed left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez and outfielder Joc Pederson along with trading for third baseman Eugenio Suarez.
