Tre’Davious White signing one-year contract with Rams after Bills release

Tre’Davious White is heading out out of the AFC East.

The former Bills All-Pro corner is planning on signing a one-year deal with the Rams worth upwards of $10 million with incentives, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

White, 29, spent his first seven seasons with the Bills and will now be attempting to come back from a torn Achilles he suffered in October.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who performed White’s surgery, is the Rams’ team doctor, and according to Schefter, the two spent time together as the defensive back rehabbed.

When healthy, he has been considered one of the best lockdown corners in the NFL.

White was among a flurry of roster cuts the Bills made earlier this month in order to shed much-needed salary cap space.

Those cuts also included All-Pro safety Jordan Poyer, center Mitch Morse, defensive back Siran Neal, receiver Deonte Harty and running back/kick returner Nyheim Hines.

The loss of White due to the cap constraints appeared to weigh on Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who spoke on Monday at the NFL owners’ meetings in Orlando, Florida.

The coach said it was “tragic” that the Bills had to cut White, adding that “he’s one of the best human beings I know.”

“You know eventually, it’s going to come because of the lifespan of an NFL player. But it came way too early in my mind, right?”  McDermott said, according to WKBW. “And I’m sure in his mind as well. It’s to me tragic in some ways because of the injuries. Had not the injuries occurred, who knows where his time in Buffalo would’ve taken him and us. I think he’s one of the best defensive backs to ever play in Buffalo.

“I really believe that. He’s all class all the time. And he works his tail off. And he’s one of the best human beings I know. From what he came from and how he’s not only lifted himself up but lifted his family up and the way he’s lifted our team up over the years it’s just to me a very unfortunate situation with the injuries. Sorry, it’s sad to see him go”

White has been hampered by injuries over the past few years, in addition to the torn Achilles, and missed 30 games during the last three seasons.

White has intercepted 18 passes during of his NFL career while recording 68 passes defended and 311 tackles in 82 starts.
