A retired NYPD cop shot and wounded a man who threatened him with a machete during a broad-daylight road rage incident on Staten Island Wednesday, law enforcement sources said.
A 45-year-old, blade-wielding man confronted the 50-year-old former officer just before 9:30 a.m. at Vineland Avenue near Grantwood Avenue in Annadale following a traffic collision, authorities and sources said.
In response, the ex-officer pulled out a gun and shot the man in the chest on the tree-lined, residential block, cops said.
The wounded man was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The shooter stayed at the scene, and no one was immediately charged.
The investigation was ongoing by the early afternoon, cops said.
