Alabama’s incredible Over trend hits again in Sweet 16 win vs. UNC

Alabama’s insane scoring trend continued during the Crimson Tide’s Sweet 16 victory over North Carolina on Thursday night.

The Crimson Tide moved to 26-9 to the Over this season with their thrilling 89-87 come-from-behind win over the Tar Heels, which burned Dez Bryant and the betting public

That 74 percent Over rate is the highest of any team in college basketball, according to Action Network’s Evan Abrams.

And they’ve been hitting the Over at an even higher rate of late.

Crimson Tide games have gone over in 12 of their last 14 contests, including two of their three NCAA Tournament games.

Alabama and North Carolina managed to hit the Over on Thursday despite the total being one of the highest in recent history.

The pregame total closed at 175 points, the highest NCAA Tournament over/under since 1995, surpassing Alabama’s second-round contest O/U against Grand Canyon, which was set at 173 points, per Abrams.

But hitting 175 points wasn’t easy.

With seconds to go in the game, it looked as if the teams were going to fall short of the historic total, snapping Alabama’s wild trend.

Down 89-85, the Tar Heels inbounded the ball with less than 10 seconds to go, desperate to keep their tourney hopes alive.

As the clock ticked away, RJ Davis drove under the basket and dumped the ball off to UNC big man Armando Bacot, who laid the ball in with 1.2 seconds left – pushing the teams’ combined total to 176 and locking up the Over.
