March Madness: Iowa-LSU becomes most bet women’s basketball game ever

Monday night’s Elite Eight bout between LSU and Iowa was a massive hit among sports bettors.

BetMGM Sportsbook reported that the game was the most-bet women’s sporting event in the sportsbook’s history.

The contest was also the most-bet event of the day at both FanDuel and BetMGM, outpacing the NBA, MLB, NHL and all other sports.

LSU-Iowa attracted 28 percent more bets at FanDuel than last year’s women’s hoops title game between the pair, according to Action Network’s Maria Marino

The nightcap between UConn and USC was popular with gamblers as well, garnering a near-record number of tickets at several sportsbooks.

“Both women’s NCAA tournament games last night outperformed all six NBA games in total bets and handle,” BetMGM trading manager Seamus Magee said. “LSU vs. Iowa was the most bet women’s basketball game ever, and UConn vs. USC was top 3. It was a special night for the game and for the sportsbook as we saw record handles in both pregame and live in-play action.”

Caitlin Clark’s Hawkeyes have consistently been one of the most fashionable teams to bet on this spring.

Nearly a third of tickets (33.2 percent) at BetMGM are on Iowa to win the national championship, which is by far the most at the sportsbook.

Clark’s prop bets during the tournament have been a hit as well.

In Monday’s game, more than 70 percent of bets at BetMGM were on Clark to go Over her points, 3-pointers, rebounds and assists props.
