Stefon Diggs said goodbye to the fans in western New York in an Instagram post on Wednesday night, hours after he was traded to the Texans.
The star wide receiver was dealt to Houston in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick, ending a four-year run with the Bills.
“I can’t begin to express the amount of love and respect I have for the city of Buffalo,” he wrote in the post, accompanied by a photo of himself in a Bills uniform. “Four of the best years of my life, the city welcomed me with open arms. I’m forever grateful for you all and the [Buffalo Bills] organization! Something special was built over these years with some very special men, that will always have a place in my heart.
“Billsmafia, so many great memories created throughout the years. Those games were crazy because of you. Sadly good things come to an end until we meet again.”
Diggs originally arrived in Buffalo after being traded by the Vikings in 2020, and he had a successful first season with the Bills, putting up career highs — and leading the league — in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535).
The relationship began to deteriorate toward the end of the 2022 season when the Bills got knocked out by the Bengals in the divisional round, which also saw Diggs get into an animated sideline exchange with quarterback Josh Allen during the 27-10 loss.
The issues persisted during the summer of 2023 when Diggs didn’t attend the first day of mandatory minicamp in June, and a report surfaced that he had been unhappy.
The two sides moved past the summer drama this season, and Diggs finished the year with 107 receptions for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Bills suffered another early playoff exit this season to the Chiefs, and Diggs told reporters that he was taking his future “day by day” in February.
