Stefon Diggs’ trade instincts were right again after he shared another timely and telling post on X before his time in Buffalo officially ended.
On Tuesday night, only hours before the star wideout was traded to the Texans on Wednesday morning, Diggs responded to a critical X user on the topic of his role in quarterback Josh Allen’s success since 2020, as discussed in ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III’s “RG3 and The Ones” latest podcast.
“Does Josh benefit from having a top tier receiver, yes. Is he essential to his success, no,” the X user wrote.
To that, Diggs responded: “You sure?”
It was another sign of Diggs’ disappointment in the lack of appreciation or acknowledgement in what he brought to the Buffalo offense.
Diggs, 30, previously had these instincts before he was traded to the Bills from the Vikings in 2020.
Minnesota was his first NFL team out of Maryland, picking him in the fifth round of the 2015 draft.
“It’s time for a new beginning,” he wrote on X at the time, only a short while before he was sent to Buffalo.
After a season that continued to show cracks and one that saw the Bills fall short of the Super Bowl again, losing to the eventual back-to-back champion Chiefs in the divisional round, Diggs wasn’t keen to declare his loyalty to the team and instead said he was taking his NFL career “day by day.”
“I feel like I take it day by day,” he said, per ESPN. “Obviously, there’s a lot of changes going on, a lot of things going on. I can’t really put the carriage before the horse, you know what I’m saying? But I got a great offseason in front of me to put a lot of work in and kind of build around what we got and what we’re doing.”
He racked up 107 receptions last season for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.
The four-time Pro Bowler has four years and $75 million left on his contract, according to Spotrac, with $18.5 million guaranteed this year.
As a result, the Bills are stuck with a $31 million dead-cap charge for 2024.
